17 - 18 October 2018, Curitiba, Brazil – The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Curitiba (CIFAL Curitiba) partnered with the Federal Technological University of Parana to host the Conference on “Business and the Community” at the Francisco Beltrão Campus. This main objective of this event was to present to entrepreneurs, students and teachers the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the linkages between the community and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Mrs. Priscila Paz Da Viera, Manager of CIFAL Curitiba, presented the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, as well as indicators to monitor levels of accomplishment. Similarly, the SDGs Portal was presented as a tool not only to have a better understanding of the SDGs but also as a mean to monitor the progress of the SDGs in Brazil.
The conference served as a venue to promote a relevant dialogue on sustainability and the roles of the private sector, the academia and the local community as a whole to advance the SDGs.
During the conference, a multi-stakeholder partnership to achieve development goals was discussed to be a priority. Not only public and private sectors are pivotal to solve the most urgent problems in society, but also academic institutions are essential in generating and disseminating knowledge. The responsibility of achieving these goals are equally shared between all sectors of society.
