We’re building a new UNITAR.org.

As we swap out old for new, pages will be in transition. Thanks for your patience – please keep coming back to see the improvements.

“I am writing to express my deep appreciation and admiration for the series of training seminars you have organized over the last several years for indigenous leaders. I am quite pleased that UNITAR has made the effort to develop this unique and important program, and am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it.”

James Anaya, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people

Being a UN Institute specialized in training for Member States and research on knowledge systems, UNITAR seeks to contribute to the United Nations system as a whole. Many UN entities offer training on themes of relevance to their respective mandates. However, none of them offer the expertise on how to best deliver this training, capture and retain knowledge, and best build upon it. This is why our "raison d’être" is being tied to methodology, responding to where the UN system needs it most, and on which it can deliver based on its endogenous strengths.

We are sensitive to the necessity to develop synergies with other institutions that make the UN system, and share its capacities on research on learning methodologies and approaches. We are keen to increase collaborations with the other UN entities that would in turn enhance knowledge transfer through training. "Delivering as one" applies as much to research and training activities as it does to any operational branch of the UN.
