Crisis Management

The complexities of contemporary crises require the involvement of different actors – above and beyond traditional ones – and calls upon effective coordination for a successful outcome. The capacity to coordinate crisis management is a fundamental element of good governance and it tests governments’ capacity to provide the appropriate responses at the right time in order to protect their citizens and businesses and mitigate the impact of disasters (OECD Risk Management: Strategic Crisis Management 2013).

UNITAR contribution in the area of crisis management is directed at ensuring that national authorities (particularly from conflict-affected countries) have the right tools and institutional framework for coordinated action. Moving from the recognition of the changing landscape of crises with which governments are confronted today, UNITAR supports governments in adapting their approaches, capacities and tools in various areas of crisis management through a variety of learning-related events (briefings, courses and workshop).
