Their work covers emergency relief, food security, health promotion, education and training, economic development, microfinance, advocacy and institutional support, and cultural promotion. Its work with UNOSAT includes production of geographic and geospatial information in order to aid the decision making processes.

Based on an exclusive access to Pléiades, SPOT, TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X (radar and optical satellites), Airbus´ extensive portfolio spans the entire geo-information value chain. Airbus Defence and Space provides decision makers with sustainable solutions to increase security, optimize mission planning and operations, boost performance, improve management of natural resources and, last but not least, protect our environment.
|Algerian Space Agency (ASAL)
The Algerian Space Agency (ASAL) is a public institution founded by the head of government by decree in 2002. ASAL is the instrument used to conceive and implement national policy aimed at promoting and developing space activity. Its primary objective is to make space a powerful tool for the country´s economic, social and cultural development and to ensure the safety and well-being of the national community. The partnership with ASAL aims at developing our respective capacities to the benefit of our beneficiaries.
|Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC)
The collaboration between UNOSAT and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) allows for better and more responsive disaster relief - both immediate and long term - for countries in Asia and the Pacific. ADPC focuses on strengthening their national disaster risk management systems with practical solutions as well as supporting the advancement of safer communities and sustainable development. The two organizations share the same high-level international agendas which make collaboration relevant and beneficial. UNOSAT and ADPC have also undertaken many training and capacity development events further expanding their involvement.
BlackSky’s mission is to deploy and operate the infrastructure to enable constant global awareness while democratizing access to satellite imaging data. We envision an open, intelligent future where enhanced global observation leads to positive change and decision-making and a better understanding of the world in which we live. UNOSAT collaborates with BlackSky on innovative applications of satellite imagery as well as training and capacity development towards developing countries.
In 2011, NASA chose the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) to be the sole manager of the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory. The mission of CASIS is to maximize use of this unparalleled platform for innovation, which can benefit all humankind and inspire a new generation to look to the stars.

|CIMA Research Foundation
CIMA is a non-profit research organization committed to the promotion and support of scientific research, technological development and training within the fields of Civil Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction and Biodiversity. CIMA Research Foundation was founded in 2007 by the Italian Civil Protection Department, the University of Genoa,the Regione Liguria (Government of Liguria Region), and the Provincia di Savona (Administration of Savona Province). UNOSAT partners with CIMA on disaster risk reduction efforts, in particular to develop and run an in-house flood risk model.
Citizen Cyberlab is developing methods and studying motivations for new forms of public participation in research. It is composed of researchers from a diversity of backgrounds – history, informatics, learning, linguistics, medicine, physics, psychology and more. Jointly, they initiate projects and organise events that encourage citizens and scientists to collaborate in new ways to solve big challenges. From online crowdsourcing to in-person hackathons, Citizen Cyberlab is exploring and expanding the limits of citizen science and human computation. Citizen Cyberlab is based on a partnership between the European Particle Physics Laboratory, CERN, the UN Institute for Training and Research, UNITAR and the University of Geneva.
|The Commonwealth Secretariat
The Commonwealth Secretariat, established in 1965, promotes democracy, rule of law, human rights, good governance and social and economic development in Commonwealth member countries. They are a voice for small states and a champion for youth empowerment. They provide training and technical assistance and support decision-makers to draw up legislation and deliver policies. They deploy experts and observers who offer impartial advice and solutions to national problems as well as systems, software and research for managing resources. UNOSAT and the Commonwealth Secretariat collaborate on the CommonSensing project.
Devex is the media platform for the global development community and a social enterprise working to make the $200 billion aid and development industry do more good for more people. Moreover, Devex is the largest provider of recruiting and business development services for global development. UNOSAT and Devex collaborate on the CommonSensing project.
UNOSAT and Digital Globe work together to quickly provide vast amounts of information to member countries in times of crisis. Digital Globe owns and operates a constellation of high-resolution, commercial, earth imaging satellites making access to information fast and reliable. By implementing their web-based platform, called FirstLook, they can provide a large amount of imagery very quickly for major global events. UNOSAT both subscribes to and shares the FirstLook service with other UN agencies to create a more cohesive and collaborative environment.
e-GEOS, a Telespazio (80%) / ASI (20%) company, is a leading international provider in the geo-spatial business. They offer a complete range of products and services in the Earth Observation and geo-spatial application domains, both based on VHR optical (i.e.GeoEye, Ikonos, QuickBird, WorldView 1-2 etc.) and radar satellites (i.e. COSMO-SkyMed 4 satellite constellation) as well as on aerial surveys. UNOSAT uses many images from e-GEOS to provide actionable information to humanitarian actors.

ESRI's long history and consistent management provides consumers with reliability and stability.
|European Research Council (ERC)
The European Research Council (ERC) is an autonomous organization that funds investigatory research within the European Union. They are supported by the European Commission and supplemented by contributions from associated states. With the help of UNOSAT, the ERC aims to enhance the performance of the European research system.

|European Space Imaging (ESI)
European Space Imaging provides high-resolution imagery from information that is collected on a daily basis. Their location in Europe makes production and access to this imagery very quick; a key benefit for UNOSAT which often needs information sent on a same day timeframe. ESI has a long-term relationship with many European and other international organizations working in disaster management, security, environmental monitoring and satellite mapping.
|Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN)
The FAO leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information helping developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Founded in 1945, FAO have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.
|Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS)
The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) is a cooperative framework which aims to consolidate and strengthen the network of providers and users of disaster information worldwide. GDACS typically covers an event throughout the response and relief phases. UNOSAT is often responsible for providing disaster assessment and satellite information in cases where a disaster alert has been activated through GDACS.
|Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR)
Overseen by the World Bank, the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) supports the development of risk assessments and aids the decision making processes. They also work to reduce vulnerabilities of communities and cities resulting from rapid urbanization. Their work with UNOSAT has increased their access to spatial analysis as well as risk mapping that aids disaster preparedness.
Google Crisis Response makes critical information more accessible around natural disasters and humanitarian crises, such as hurricanes and earthquakes. This initiative is a project of Google.org, which uses Google's strengths in information and technology to build products and advocate for policies that address global challenges. Google's contributions include: updated satellite imagery of the disaster area, charitable donations to organizations on-the-ground, outreach through Google web properties, and engineering tools, such as Google Person Finder and Landing Pages, designed to organize and coordinate critical response resources and information. Google and UNOSAT are also working together in an effort to continuously improve rapid access to accurate map data in times of disaster and humanitarian response. For example, UNOSAT serves as a conduit for UN agencies who may request Google Map Maker data for more than 150 countries around the world.
|Group on Earth Observations
Established in 2005, GEO is a voluntary partnership of governments and organizations that envisions “a future wherein decisions and actions for the benefit of humankind are informed by coordinated, comprehensive and sustained Earth observations and information.” GEO Member governments include 101 nations and the European Commission, and 95 Participating Organizations (including UNITAR-UNOSAT) comprised of international bodies with a mandate in Earth observations.

Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights.
IMPACT Initiatives is a leading Geneva based think and do tank, created in 2010 and firstly operationalized in 2012. IMPACT is a member of the ACTED Group. Through its action, IMPACT aims at shaping practices and influencing policies in humanitarian and development settings, in order to positively impact the lives of people and their communities. They do so by co-constructing and promoting knowledge, tools, and practices which enable better decision-making by key aid stakeholders. In all their work, we promote the use of settlement approaches as a catalyst for more effective aid action. We believe that by understanding settlements through the lens of community dynamics, governance structures and socio-economic relationships, we can impact lives of people, improve communities’ development pathways and contribute to a fairer world. |Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Eastern Africa
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Eastern Africa was created in 1996 to supersede the Intergovernmental Authority on Drought and Development (IGADD) which was founded in 1986. The IGAD mission is to assist and complement the efforts of the Member States to achieve, through increased cooperation: food security and environmental protection; promotion and maintenance of peace and security and humanitarian affairs; and economic cooperation and integration. UNOSAT and IGAD are implementing a mutually beneficial capacity development project to support IGAD in reaching its objectives, in particular with respect to the use of GIS and remote sensing for disaster risk reduction.
|International Charter on Space and Major Disasters
The International Charter is a system of space data acquisition and delivery activated by participating space agencies in case of major natural and man-made disasters. UNOSAT acts as a user intermediary for requests emanating from UN agencies responding to natural disasters. In such cases, the Space Charter provides free satellite imagery and data that are used in UNOSAT Rapid Mapping Service to generate information and publish maps for the use of the UN Disaster Assessment Coordination (UNDAC) teams and other field teams.
|International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the largest humanitarian network in the world. Its mission is to alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and uphold human dignity especially during armed conflicts and other emergencies. It is present in every country and supported by millions of volunteers. UNOSAT has provided imagery analysis and GIS products to ICRC for 10 years. In 2015 both organizations decided to explore further avenues of cooperation, in particular with regards to training and knowledge sharing.
|International Criminal Court
The International Criminal Court (ICC), governed by the Rome Statute, is the first permanent, treaty based, international criminal court established to help end impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community. The ICC is an independent international organisation, and is not part of the United Nations system. Its seat is at The Hague in the Netherlands. UNOSAT and ICC have collaborated on court cases and in a capacity development rôle.
|International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
ITU is an international organization and a specialized agency of the United Nations created with the objective of facilitating peaceful relations, international cooperation among peoples and economic and social development by means of efficient telecommunication services with the purpose among others, of fostering international cooperation in the delivery of technical assistance to the developing countries to promote the development of their telecommunication networks and services, while taking into account the priority of telecommunications in securing human life.

UNICRI's is one of the 5 global Research and Training Institutes of the United Nations which report to the UN Secretary General. UNICRI carries out applied research, training, technical cooperation and documentation / information activities in the areas of Emerging Crimes and Anti-Human Trafficking; Security Governance and Counter Terrorism; Justice Reform, and Post-Graduate Training.
ITC is the largest institute for international higher education in the Netherlands. It provides international postgraduate education, research and project services in the field of geo-information science and earth observation using remote sensing and GIS. The aim of ITC's activities is the international exchange of knowledge, focusing on capacity building and institutional development in developing countries and emerging economies.
|Joint Research Centre (JRC) European Commission
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) is a department (Directorate-General, DG) of the European Commission providing independent scientific and technological support for EU policy-making. It works closely on the development of EU legislation with the relevant Commission services, such as the Agricultural, Enterprise, Environment, and Health and Consumer Protection DGs. Knowledge comes from specific application- and issue-oriented research within the seven JRC Institutes and close co-operation with over 1000 public and private organisations in 150 networks in Member State and applicant countries. The JRC also liases with non-EU and global scientific and standard-setting bodies.

Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) is a world leading commercial satellite center ideally located for TT&C, launch support, orbit support and near real time earth observation service. They have contributed to UNOSAT's work to monitor security risks. Their unique location also enables quick access to information for humanitarian needs.
MapAction is a humanitarian mapping charity that works through skilled volunteers. Our specialist teams help to save lives and minimise suffering by making the response to humanitarian emergencies as targeted, efficient and effective as possible. MapAction delivers vital information in mapped form, from data gathered at the disaster scene. Creating a 'shared operational picture' is crucial for making informed decisions and delivering aid to the right place, quickly. MapAction's service is unique. It's the only non-governmental organisation (NGO) with a capacity to deploy a fully trained and equipped humanitarian mapping and information management team anywhere in the world, often within just hours. UNOSAT and MapAction form a complementary humanitarian partnership that seeks to leverage remote analysis for a more effective field presence.

MFB-GeoConsulting specialises in software and applications for optical and radar earth observation analysis involving Leica geospatial tools. Through this partnership UNOSAT has access to software that powers the Geospatial Imaging Chain.
Radiant provides a geospatial and imagery technology platform that supports knowledge transfer to positively impact the developing world´s greatest social, economic and environmental challenges. Radiant is committed to aggregating the world´s open Earth imagery and providing access and education on its use to the global development community. At the center of Radiant is an open technology platform that will help people discover and analyze the vast resources of Earth imagery, accelerating improved decision-making and fueling new solutions, discoveries and innovations. UNOSAT and Radiant will focus on joint activities to raise awareness about the benefits of Earth observation at the local level, automate analysis, and provide capacity building activities on the use of Earth observation data for the global development community. |Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD)
The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) was established in Nairobi – Kenya in 1975. RCMRD is an inter-governmental organization whose mission is to promote sustainable development in the 20 member States through generation, application and dissemination of geo-information and allied ICT technologies, products and services. UNOSAT and RCMRD collaborate to strengthen GIS and RS capacity in East and South Africa.
Sensonomic collects, processes, analyses and validates natural capital and ecosystem services data. They utilise new remote sensing opportunities and combine findings with real time market and company information. This empowers clients to make better informed decisions regarding risks and opportunities related to natural capital and the services it is providing. UNOSAT and Sensonomic collaborate on the CommonSensing project.
|Federal Office of Topography swisstopo
The Federal Office of Topography swisstopo is the centre of competence for the Swiss Confederation responsible for geographical reference data, for instance the description, representation and archiving of geographic spatial data (such as national maps, elevation and landscape models, satellite images, orthophotos). In the context of the ResEau project (reseau-tchad.org), UNOSAT and swisstopo work together to produce hydrogeological maps of Chad.

Télécoms Sans Frontières is the leading international NGO specializing in emergency telecommunications. TSF deploys within 24 hours on natural disasters and humanitarian crisis to provide satellite communication facilities to NGOs, rescue teams, UN Agencies and affected populations.
|UK Space Agency
The UK Space Agency is responsible for all strategic decisions on the UK civil space programme and provides a clear, single voice for UK space ambitions. They are responsible for ensuring that the UK retains and grows a strategic capability in space-based systems, technologies science and applications. They lead the UK´s civil space programme in order to win sustainable economic growth, secure new scientific knowledge and provide benefit to all citizens. The CommonSensing project is part of the UK Space Agency´s International Partnership Programme (IPP).
GRID Geneva is part of UNEP´s Global Resource Information Database (GRID) network. GRID centres not only facilitate access to but directly provide environmental data and information for decision-making and policy setting, underpin UNEP´s ongoing review of environmental state and trends and provide early warnings about emerging environmental problems and threats. UNOSAT and UNEP-GRID are collaborating on the CommonSensing project.
|UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)
OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies, advocate for the rights of people in need, promote preparedness and prevention, facilitate sustainable solutions. Since 2003, OCHA has benefitted from UNOSAT’s Humanitarian Rapid Mapping service which provides timely geospatial information and satellite derived analysis to all humanitarian agencies to facilitate decision making, in-field coordination, reporting and monitoring.
|Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the principle human rights office within the United Nations which attempts to implement human rights standards with partners at the country and local level, thereby establishing greater country engagement. UNOSAT and OHCHR work together, specifically on targeted human rights missions and investigations, to assess geographical areas and research potential human rights violations. OHCHR increasingly relies on UNOSAT for satellite solutions to human rights issues.
|United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF)
UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behavior towards children. UNOSAT has teamed with UNICEF’s Emergency Programmes, Early Warning & Preparedness (EMOPS-EWP) to ensure satellite imagery and related solutions are available to UNICEF.
|United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), specifically the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR), works globally to restore quality of life for men, women and children who have been devastated by natural disaster or violent conflict. They often request satellite imagery maps and analysis from UNOSAT in order to assist UN country teams as well as national actors. This collaboration caters to early recovery and development with the many agencies and country offices involved.
|United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. The region is home to 4.1 billion people, or two thirds of the world’s population. This makes ESCAP the most comprehensive of the United Nations five regional commissions, and the largest United Nations body serving the Asia-Pacific region with over 600 staff. UNOSAT and ESCAP work together to build GIS and remote sensing capacity in the region to reduce disaster risk.
|United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
In 1945, UNESCO was created in order to respond to the firm belief of nations, forged by two world wars in less than a generation, that political and economic agreements are not enough to build a lasting peace. Peace must be established on the basis of humanity’s moral and intellectual solidarity. UNESCO strives to build networks among nations that enable this kind of solidarity and works with UNOSAT to preserve threatened cultural heritage sites across the globe.
|United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
The primary purpose of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is to protect the rights and wellfare of refugees. They work with UNOSAT to locate the displaced after natural disasers with satellite mapping analysis in order to provide aid. Satellite mapping has also increased UNHCR's ability to improve human security monitoring. This collaboration creates expanded cooperation to support specific emergencies and potential risk preparedness.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
|University of Geneva (UNIGE)
The University of Geneva is a public university, founded in 1559, devoted to research, teaching and the exchange of ideas. UNOSAT and The University of Geneva have a steady collaboration, focusing on areas such as Geomatics and new technologies. They also work together regularly on Citizen Cyberscience Center endeavors.
|University of Neuchâtel
Founded in 1965, CHYN was focused on the study of karst, the limestone typically found in its native region. Today CHYN positions itself among the premier research centres in the world in nearly every area of modern hydrogeology and geothermics. Its mission addresses crucial issues that society faces : improving knowledge of renewable water and underground energy resources, developing strategies to durably manage said resources and transfer the knowledge through unique specialized trainings. UNOSAT and UNINE work together on the ResEau project (reseau-tchad.org), with a particular focus on the "Hydro-GIS" Masters Programme delivered in Chad in collaboration with the University of N´Djamena, a project funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development.
|University of Copenhagen
The University of Copenhagen is largest institution of research and education in Denmark. The University works with UNOSAT regularly and offers a Master of Disaster Management programme, supplemented by courses on geospatial information for disaster response provided by UNOSAT. This collaboration has grown from increasing demand and improved technologies in many of their operational areas, such as GIS database information and tools.
|University of N´Djamena
The University of N´Djamena (Chad) was established by government decree in 1971 and service as the main center of higher learning of this strategic country. Chad has derived its tradition of academic excellence from France and its university continues to offer world-class learning with specialized programs in areas that are relevant to the geographical area and to the international community. As part of the ResEau project (reseau-tchad.org), UNOSAT and the University of N´Djamena, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, have designed and implemented a Masters Programme in Chad which combines Hydrogeology and GIS.

The roots of the University can be traced back at least to the earliest part of the 20th century. In 1992, Portsmouth Polytechnic was granted University status, officially becoming the University of Portsmouth. They have a population of over 25,000 students and 2,500 full-time equivalent staff. The University of Portsmouth prides itself on being an inclusive environment for staff and students, with a diverse student population from over 120 countries. Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of all University activity so that all can meet their full potential. |U.S. Geological Survey
The USGS is a science organization that provides impartial information on the health of our ecosystems and environment, the natural hazards that threaten us, the natural resources we rely on, the impacts of climate and land-use change, and the core science systems that help us provide timely, relevant, and useable information. USGS and UNOSAT typically collaborate during the disaster response phase when the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters is triggered.
The World Bank is an independent and specialized agency of the United Nations. It acts as an international financial institution that provides loans to developing countries for capital programs. Its goal is to reduce poverty by providing aid in a developmental capacity. The World Bank teams up with UNOSAT and other actors for collaborative mapping purposes which support the development of nations.
|World Food Programme
The World Food Programme is “the food aid arm of the United Nations system.” Their primary purpose is to support social and economic development, meet emergency food needs, and promote world food security. By increasing their use of geospatial information for crisis preparation and response with the help of UNOSAT, the WFP is better able to obtain their information requirements in order to meet their goals of food aid relief. WFP and UNOSAT have agreed to work together to expand their cooperation in information exchange, data sharing, and joint geospatial products.
|World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to providing information related to the earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources for the international community. UNOSAT and the WMO have teamed up to use satellite imagery and applications to address global challenges and human safety.
